Angel Policemen

It had been another ladies group night and we had let out late, as usual.
I was waiting for the ladies to finish visiting over their refreshments before taking them back to their homes.
Just as we were about to leave, my neighbor from across the street knocked on the door. She asked if I could take her to a friends home to pick up some things that she needed for the next day. I told her that I would be happy to do so. If she wanted to ride along with us I could take her by on the way back.
Soon we were all in the car chatting happily as we went along.

After dropping off the leader of the group at her home in Amititlan, we headed for the home of my neighbors friend.
It was necessary to go a different way than I usually did and the road was unfamiliar. It was late and the traffic was light. Actually it was too light, but I just thought it was because of the hour.
As I drove along I saw a big hole with a big irrigation tube standing up in it.
I smiled, thinking to myself that someone had not wanted anyone to go in the hole so they put that tube in it.
I could hear the ladies in the back seat chatting and laughing together.
Suddenly I noticed some loose gravel and thought to myself, hmmmn, there is loose gravel here. Maybe I had better slow down, they could be doing some construction on this road. As I begin to apply the break softly the road suddenly ended and I ended up with the nose of my car hanging down, the back end in the air, and the middle of my car balancing on the edge like a titter totter.
I heard the ladies in the back gasp as we came to an abrupt halt.

As we all climbed out of the car I looked around us to see where we could find any help. We were the only ones on the road, and there was no one in sight.
I sent up a silent prayer, "Lord, if you could just send us a couple of men to help us out of here," I said.
At that very instance I saw two policemen walking towards us. from a few feet away. They had not been there when we stopped. At least I hadn't seen them and none of the ladies with me had seen them.

They walked over to us, and I exclaimed, "there was no sign, nothing to show us that the road was closed."
They just smiled at us and repeated what I said, "there was no sign?"
Now you must understand that the policemen in Guatemala at this time were very poorly paid, and this would have been a good opportunity for them to make a little extra money, but nothing was said. We weren't asked for any papers as we normally would have been at that time, either.
The two policemen stepped down to the level under which the nose of the car pointed down, and quickly pushed the car up and out.

As we climbed back into the car we thanked them and turned to wave good-bye.
They were no where in sight. The area around us was flat for a long distance. There were no houses or trees to obstruct the view, but there was no one. We all exclaimed, "where did they go?"
I began to back down the road to where we had gotten off the track. I had forgotten about the post in the hole at the beginning. As I backed back, suddenly the thought came to me that I should back around and come down the road front forward so that I could come into the other road at the correct angle. As I turned my wheel I was surprised to see the post come up on the side next to my car. If I hadn't turned when I did, I would have run right into it.

When we got back on the correct road, we pulled into the first well lighted place that we came to and got out to check for damage on the car. I thought that we had surely at least dented something underneath. We were surprised to find that not one dent was anywhere.
Once again the Lord had sent His angels to protect and deliver us.
We arrived home singing and praising God.
What a wonderful loving Father we have.
"The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them."
