Four Old Ragged Tires

I have mentioned before that when I obtained my legal separation from my husband, I was given the custody of our children, half of the family home and granted it's use and one car. My husband was given half of the family home, all of the family business, five cars and a piece of land in the country. He was ordered to pay me child support. On his lawyers advice, he with held it in the belief that if I wasn't able to live in comfort I would then relinquish my portion of the home and he could have that also.

I had sought the separation in the beginning because he had come to me and suggested that he should be allowed to bring his lover to live in our home. I refused and was then told that I would be the one who would have to leave. That is when I reacted to the situation and obtained the separation.

Already before the separation my husband was refusing more and more to provide for me or our home.

I, as I have said on other occasions was making weekly trips to and from the town of Amatitlan to bring the leader and other ladies to our women's prayer group.

The time came when my tires began to show the wear and tear of trip after trip. I wasn't receiving any support so I had no money to replace them. I had mentioned to my husband that fact that I needed tires for my car and was told that he would not give me anything.

I made it a subject of prayer, knowing that in His time God would show the way.

A friend of mine gave me get some used tires that had a little tread still on them, but they also went the way of the first tires.

Soon the wire binding inside the tires began to show through. I would run my hand over the tires and feel the bristly brush of the wires.

Still I continued to trust God as I made the trips week after week.

On one particular week I felt a little uncertain about the tires being able to make it anymore. All through our bible study, and prayer that followed, I prayed fervently that God would keep His hands over the tires.

At the close of the service while the ladies were enjoying their coffee, I approached one of my neighbors and asked if she would accompany me. I explained that she would be in danger if anything happened to the tires, but she agreed to go with me.

Soon we were on the road. All through the trip there and the trip back I was praying, praying that we would arrive back home safely.

Mile after mile we drove. Mile after mile I prayed.

As we approached the turn off to our home I began to thank God for His mercy and protection on that trip. As I pulled into the garage I gave a sigh of relief. It was about 11pm, the trip was over and we had all returned to our homes in safety.

As I was opening the door to the kitchen my curiosity got the best of me and I turned and went back out to the garage to check my tires. They were all full of air and fine.

Everyone in the house was sleeping soundly so I went on up stairs to my bedroom and fell on my knees, thanking God time and again for His protection of us that night.

In the morning I realized that there was no milk in the house and doing a quick check of my wallet, managed to uncover enough for a quart of milk for my daughter's cereal.

I glanced at the clock and noted that I had time to drive quickly to the store before she would be up.

I walked hurriedly to my car and just as I was about to get in I gave the tires a quick glance.

I was startled to see that the front tire was completely flat. I slowly walked around the car to check on the others, and all four tires were flat.

I couldn't believe it. All of them were full of air when I went to bed and now not a one of them had any air in it.

As I looked the tires over I noticed that the wires on the tires were sticking out a good inch all around. It was easy to see why they were flat.

I went inside and called my oldest son. As he entered the kitchen I explained that I had no air in my tires and I told him that he would have to take one or two tires at a time to the gas station and get some air in them. He grumbled a little but walked out to the garage to do it. He was back in a few minutes, saying, "where do you propose that I put the air? There is no rubber left on the tires to hold it."

He said no more, just walked out the door and left to go to our furniture factory where he worked with his father.

I sat down in dismay. I had many things planed that I needed to do on this day, and now I had no transportation.

Although I didn't like it, I canceled my plans for the day.

About two hours later my son was back at the house. He had four new tires in the truck. It seems he went to his father and made him realize that I needed my car and that he had better get me some tires.

Although very angry with me and with my son, my husband had finally agreed to buy the tires.

I was so grateful to God. He had taken me on the trip the night before with no inconvenience and brought me back safely. Then as I slept in safety in my bed, He let the tires go flat and used my son to talk to my husband and get me a new set of tires.

Many times people pray to God, doubting that He will take care of the situation. I am living proof that God never forsakes us. Never fails to answer, and never acts too late.

All my needs have always been supplied.

" I was young and now I Am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor their children begging bread" Psalms 37:25
